Each year the NYC Street Activity Permit Office issues permits to thousands of street fairs and special events, many that use multiple blocks over several days. Events increase overtime costs to the City for use of additional police, etc. Street fairs and events also take police officers from their main job of fighting crime and counter terrorism.Street Activity Permit Office is to deny permits for new events scheduled for calendar year 2017 if the event was not held in the calendar year 2016.
